Segway

I saw a man in a business suit fly across University street here in College Station this morning. He stood there, waiting for the signal to change, and then simply leaned forward and took off. I was on a bicycle and from a dead stop he beat me across the street with ease. Of course, I wasn't really racing him, I was in awe of the speed at which the object was moving. The object, or vehicle, was a Segway. I mentioned the phenomena to a few people today. Some said they had seen a similar rider in our midst.

Last I heard, when they were first built, a Segway would cost you around $2,000-3,000. At least that's I recall having heard some years ago. I investigated the matter, and customized my own Segway on their website. My total came to an amount roughly equal to that of which I've sunk into my car.

$5,460. For a thing that moves you around at 12-15mph (or so it appeared), yet requires no exertion to operate. They look neat, but I will ride my bike and stay in shape, and not look like I have so much money that college tuition is pocket change and I ride a Segway to Subway.
I have something to say about Subway, but it will have to wait for another day.

Enjoy the weekend!

There used to be a Segway store right as you entered campus, which I thought was very telling about the university. I can proudly say though that it is now out of business. I did see one of the cops riding a Segway around campus the other day though...

i think i saw the same "rider"
on campus in his business attire.
everyone stopped what they were doing and gazed as he glided down the street with his funny looking Segway helmet.
