I lie on my back, my laptop resting on my stomach and I think to myself, at so late an hour, “what is the correct usage of lay/laid/lain/lie?”

I have, in the 10 minutes span of that paragraph break, duly researched the word and still arrive at no veritable conclusions. But you understand my meaning. It’s late and I’m typing this in my bed.
